Life of a Hijra

  1. Cool video! It's crazy how similar hijras and two-spirits are. A couple interesting things I found were that hijras started or were discovered over 4,000 years ago and that they are shunned by society but accepted at weddings for good luck in a marriage. I wonder: how do people discover that they are hijras and what makes them so discarded from society in all aspects when they are cherished at weddings?

  2. I loved how you told this story in first person. It made the story so much more compelling, and the story was well written. I find it interesting that they are desired at weddings for good luck, but then are treated so poorly in the community. How does one have the expectation to gain luck from someone that they disregard and force to live in poverty?

  3. I really liked the way your voice fit in with the project, and the background music was perfect. Do you think it took him a long time to finally accept his sexuality?

  5. Your video reminds me of the everyday struggle that homosexuals face all over the world. I think that it's extremely brave of the Hijras to continue to live their lives even though they aren't accepted by their communities and can't get real jobs; it speaks to the idea that being yourself will bring you happiness no matter the consequences.
